Protect your files - control the devices that connect to your PC
ClearShield lets you select which removable storage devices are allowed to connect to your computer. Alternatively, each category of device - USB, Firewire, and CD/DVD - can be disabled altogether. Once the settings have been selected, ClearShield's device control technology does its job - keeping unwanted devices from gaining access to your computer, and therefore, your personal information. Additionally, because a potentially infected device cannot connect, your system has additional protections in place guarding you against viruses, spyware, and other malicious programs.
In addition to removable storage control, there are several things you can do to protect your machine

- Turn on automatic updates for your operating system;
- Make sure your antivirus program has automatic updates enabled, and be sure to scan regularly;
- Configure your firewall to block activity trying to open new ports;
- Do not run your system as a local administrator. By running your system as a limited user, which is now the default mode with Vista, malware will not gain the privilege necessary to write to your system files;
- Install a content filtering system that blocks access to known phishing sites and sites that contain malware;
- Schedule regular backups for all critical data, including documents, emails, and spreadsheets, in case you need to reinstall your operating system;
- Protect your files from being viewed by using an easy-to-configure file encryption solution;
- Control which removable storage devices can connect to your computer;
- Download and install a behavior-based detection program, such as ClearShield, which looks for suspicious behavior, not just specific programs.
